Shiva is represented in his anthropomorphic form as Nataraja, the Lord of Dance, who is performing the dance of creation in his Vishwaroopa (cosmic) form, a figure that is huge covering the entire universe.  

Yaar Adinaar describes the matchless dance by Shiva, with His consort, Parvathi, to the accompaniment of the five elements. The song begins with a question, “Can anyone dance like Nataraja, the King of Dance?”. Sivagaami, who has fish shaped eyes, forgets herself seeing the blissful dance of her Lord. 

Lord Shiva dances the vibrant, magnificent Thaandava and Sivagaami dances the graceful Laasya along with the Bootha Ganas, Apsaras, Lord Vishnu, the Gandharvas, Thumburu and Nandhi.  The dancing feet are always blessed auspiciously. It is a simile that the whole secret behind the cosmic dance, is that the Supreme Intelligence dances in the soul of every human for the sole purpose of removing Sins, Ego, Darkness, Maya or Illusion to attain salvation. The one who has seen or understood this significance of the cosmic dance is truly the blessed one
